With the slogan of "Nature’s Little Secrets," the British Virgin Islands (BVI) present themselves to the world as some of the least developed and most exclusive islands in the Caribbean.

With 60 islands featuring a variety of stunning mountainous landscapes, combined with some of the most pristine beaches you can find in the Caribbean, surely there’s a lot to see and do in the BVI. Here are just seven of the best things to do here.

1. The Baths

Perhaps the most picturesque shore in the BVI, and with good reason: It offers unique water-filled grottoes amidst gigantic granite boulders by the beach. The Baths is not just a pretty beach; it is an adventure.

Next to The Baths there’s the Devil’s Bay, but to reach it, you must pass through the grottoes: climbing over boulders, dipping your feet in the enclosed pools, and passing through tight passages created by the boulders themselves. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the Devil’s Bay, but every minute of the hike feels like a discovery. Once at the Devil’s Bay, more boulders grace the shores of this pristine white sand beach.

2. Party at Jost Van Dyke’s White Bay Beach

Jost Van Dyke is an island near Tortola, the main island of the BVI, which is considered to be a sleepy island until it’s time to party. And there’s no doubt about it, this is the place to party in the BVI.

Voted as one of the top beaches in the BVI, White Bay Beach’s long stretch of white sand is protected by a large reef that makes it not only a great beach for swimmers but also an excellent snorkeling spot. Additionally, the beach is lined with bars that keep the party alive all day long. White Bay is also famous for its New Years Eve party.

3. Savannah Beach

In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Virgin Gorda, yet it’s often empty – paradise all for yourself! The beach might not have a wide sand strip, but it is long enough to pick a spot and feel like you own this place.

4. Dive the Wreck of the Rhone

Located within a protected National Marine Park, the British Royal Mail steamer known as RMS Rhone was recently voted as one of the ten best wreck dives in the world. The ship sank in 1867 when the it hit stormy weather and an explosion in the boiler room split the stern from the bow. The wreck lies in separate locations, which makes the dive an even more fascinating exploration. It’s possible to explore the still-intact bow, as well as swim under the stern for a close-up view of the 15ft high propeller.

5. Go to Anegada for Seclusion

Anegada, also known as the "drowned island" since its highest point is just 28 feet above the sea, is one of the furthest islands of the BVI. This makes it one of the most secluded and best-preserved places in the territory. Don’t miss snorkeling the coral reefs near Anegada, as they are in pristine shape.

6. Go Sailing and Island Hopping

The BVI are known as one of the world's greatest sailing destinations. Charter sailboats are a very popular way to visit less accessible islands that some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the territory. Sailing is a typical activity locals do, especially on Saturdays, when they take their boats, sails, and yachts to spend the day on nearby islands. Tourists can either charter a full sailboat or hop on a tour that will take them to the best beaches in the area.

7. Eat at Hog Heaven

Hog Heaven only opens during the high season, but if you’re in Virgin Gorda and have a car, drive up to Hog Heaven to taste some of the best BBQ ribs and Caribbean food in the region. If the delicious food wasn’t enough, Hog Heaven is located almost at the top of the highest peak of Virgin Gorda, which gives stunning panoramic views of the nearby islands. The drive from Spanish Town to Hog Heaven is just 15 minutes, but be careful as you drive since parts of the road are quite steep.
