What are the different types of Travel Insurance?
There are two main types of
travel insurance (also known as trip insurance): Trip Protection and Medical Coverage.
Trip Protection plans primarily cover
Trip Cancellation (often referred to as “Trip Can”),
Trip Interruption and
Baggage (or Luggage) Protection. Essentially, Trip Protection style plans act as a financial safeguard to reimburse you for non-refundable fees or baggage replacement – which you would ordinarily lose without travel insurance.
Some trip protection plans include a degree of medical coverage, but it is usually limited. The second type of travel insurance is full
travel medical insurance, which helps protect you in case a medical emergency occurs on your trip. Many medical insurance plans do not cover you when you leave the country. However, a good travel medical insurance plan can reimburse you if you need to purchase medication, go to the emergency room, or be evacuated to a properly equipped hospital. If your primary health insurance doesn’t provide adequate coverage, the right travel insurance plan can provide
worldwide medical insurance.
Both types of travel insurance are available in
single-trip or
annual (multi-trip) plans. Chat with us live or
